As co-founder and partner of X Filme, Tom Tykwer is regularly involved in the development of many films. The company works on the basis that filmmakers look out for one another, and that the lines which divide the roles of producers and directors, are not set in stone. “We have developed an inter-disciplinary working model, in which directors and producers sit together and help each other out. It opens the door to external perspectives, and allows us to make genuinely individual, personal films which still make it into the public arena.”

Sometimes Tom Tykwer becomes so involved in a project – particularly when it is a debut – that he accompanies the entire conceptual process as a creative producer. That was what happened in Sebastian Schipper’s 1999 "Gigantics", which was produced by Tom Tykwer and Stefan Arndt. For many, “Gigantics”, which unfortunately remained a kind of famous well-kept secret, is still one of the most intimate and inspired of all X films.

Together with Maria Köpf, Tom Tykwer is now working on Schipper’s next
film “A Friend of Mine”, which will be shot in the fall of 2004.

As producer (also with Stefan Arndt), he recently co-supervised Mennan Yapo's debut film, a thriller called "Soundless", starring Joachim Król. (Release in April 2004)
