At latest since his involvement in the fast-paced soundtrack for Tom Tykwer's film success RUN LOLA RUN, REINHOLD HEIL has been considered a major name in film composition. And all those who weren't living on the moon in the eighties, will remember his involvement in a German pop wonder: As a founding member of the Nina Hagen band, he enjoyed major success with their debut album, and with both albums together he harvested gold and platinum Europe-wide.
After Nina Hagen left the band and set off on a search for UFOs, the remaining members continued under the name Spliff, and again had major gold and platinum success with the Spliff Radio Show, and the hits "Carbonara" and "Das Blech", written by Heil. He studied sound engineering during the seventies at art school in Berlin, produced the first three Nena albums, and has also worked for established artists such as Kim Wilde, Rio Reiser or Annette Humpe.
Reinhold Heil wrote his first soundtrack in 1984 for a TV detective film ZWEIERLEI BLUT and for Uwe Friesner's feature film BABY, but then in the nineties he took a long break in order to travel the world and set up his own studio in Santa Barbara, California. In order to expand his horizons, he composed the music for a Shakespeare production by Katharina Thalbach, staged at Berlin's Schiller Theatre, and started looking for greater contact with film directors. In 1992, he did the sound on directing student Connie Walther's short film BÖRSDAY BLUES, and also composed the music for her later films, DAS ERSTE MAL (1996) and LIFE IS THE MAIN THING (1998).
Reinhold Heil works with the Australian musician, Johnny Klimek on the music for Tom Tykwer's films. The three of them composed the music for Tykwer's WINTERSLEEPERS and RUN LOLA RUN. The single "Wish" with Thomas D. and Franka Potente went gold in the German charts.
In 1998 Heil produced Marianne Rosenberg's Album "Luna", and last year he worked on a TV detective film OFFENE RECHNUNG by Connie Walther, and wrote the Soundtrack to I LOVE YOU, BABY. Furthermore, he worked on the music for THE PRINCESS AND THE WARRIOR, and NICK KNATTERTON, directed by Marcus O. Rosenmüller. He has also joined forces with Nina Hagen again. Her new album contains the Zarah-Leander track "Wind", which Reinhold Heil completely orchestrated and produced.
